Meeting Circles/Yarning Circles

Circles are highly significant in most Aboriginal cultures. Most Aboriginal cultures are circular as knowledge is passed on to generation to generation, so the learning, teachings and traditions continuously live on “Stronger Together”. The U-shaped symbols represent people passing on knowledge.

The Boomerangs

The boomerang is a highly recognised tool/weapon in most Aboriginal cultures. There are many different types/styles of boomerangs, and each have a different purpose/use. The boomerang below is a returning boomerang and when thrown a particular way it will move in a circular motion and come back to you. Despite the dispossession and hardship of the past and current issues Aboriginal people face, we are “coming back stronger” just like the boomerang.

The Shield

The shield is a significant weapon/tool that was used by some of our strongest warriors. The linework in each shield is a display of how I, as an artist see and interpret my country. The straight slanted lines I see in the mountain ranges, the wavey lines for our rivers and sapphire blue oceans. The shield brings out “The Warrior Within".

Kangaroo Tracks

The Kangaroo is highly recognised Australian Animal. The kangaroo is known to only move forward and is a staunch, strong and grounded animal. When I see the kangaroo, I think “Grounded in Strength and Resilience” just like our people.
