JAY CROUCH
Written by: Locke Fitzpatrick
If you follow CrossFit, there’s a good chance you know the name Jay Crouch. The Australian CrossFit athlete has spent more than a decade competing at the highest level of the sport, earning three individual CrossFit Games appearances and two Oceania Regional wins along the way. But Jay’s story started long before the competition floor.
At 13, Jay was introduced to CrossFit by his dad, who took him along to their local box to try a workout. He was hooked. What started as something new quickly became a sport he wanted to pursue, and Jay began surrounding himself with experienced athletes and members of the CrossFit community who helped shape the way he trained and approached competition.
Fast forward more than ten years and CrossFit has become a huge part of Jay’s life. Training, competing and constantly finding ways to improve have taken him around the world, but the mindset that started it all remains the same: keep showing up and keep getting better. These days, Jay trains from his home gym, The Vault, a purpose-built space on his family’s property. It gives him everything he needs to train across the different elements of CrossFit, from strength and Olympic lifting to conditioning, gymnastics and endurance.
At the level Jay competes, there’s always something to improve. A movement to refine. A weakness to work on. A workout to attack differently. A little more fitness to build. That’s what keeps him motivated - knowing there’s always another level to reach.
For Jay, being 1% better every day isn’t about making huge changes overnight. It’s about the small things that add up over time: turning up for another session, working on the areas that don’t come naturally and learning from every competition, good or bad.
More than a decade after his first CrossFit workout, Jay is still doing exactly that.
Showing up. Putting in the work. And finding the next 1%.
